Official League Ranking (OLR):

The OLR is based on the following six principals:

1)  Performance is measured most accurately by average points per segment, not average placing.  It is more difficult to place from 5th to 1st than it is from 10th to 5th.  The increased difficulty as the field becomes smaller is accurately reflected in our point table and we remain consistent with this principal in the OLR calculations.

2)  Recent performance is more relevant than past performance.  The OLR will weight a player's performance by the following percentages:  Most recent year - 60%, two years ago - 30%, three years ago - 10%.  This weighting applies to both the regular and championship segments.

3)  Performance should be adjusted by participation level.  Example:  Player A averaged 2000 points per segment in a year that averaged 20 players.  Player B averaged 1000 points per segment in a year that averaged 40 players.  In this case, Player A's average points would be divided by two.  This adjustment will only apply to the regular segments as the championship segment participation remains relatively fixed.

4)  The primary goal during the regular season is to qualify for the championship segment.  This accomplishment is challenging and demonstrates skill that should be rewarded.  The OLR will bonus 1500 points to each player, in every year they accomplish this goal.  These points will be weighted as noted in 2).

5)  It is significantly more difficult to place higher in the championship segment due to the strength of the players involved.  The OLR will factor twice the placing points for the championship segment.  Example: 1st place receives 20,000 points.   These points will be weighted as noted in 2).

6)  It is important that a player produces enough data to be measured over the long term.  To be ranked, a player must have participated in 18 out of the latest 30 regular segments.  It is also important that a player has current participation due to the continued addition of new players and modification of rules.  To be ranked, a player ALSO must have participated in 6 out of the latest 10 regular segments.

OLR Calculation = weighted (2) adjusted (3) average points per regular segment (1) + weighted (2) champ bonus (4+5)

The OLR has been carefully thought out and debated, taking into consideration other models such as the Official World Golf Ranking.  We welcome any feedback that you may have.
