World Series of Poker (WSOP) Player Profiles
We are proud of the many KF Poker players that have experienced the WSOP in Las Vegas.
Check out their resumes below. |
Jason Braun or "Crazy Jay" started playing poker in his early 30's mostly through home games and the occasional tournament. He committed to improving through regular play, reading numerous poker strategy books, and consulting with some of Winnipeg's top players. He is a founding member of the KF Poker League and attributes the idea to inspiration from Joe Macek's deep run in the 2006 WSOP Main Event. Crazy Jay has played more WSOP events than any other current KF Poker player. His most notable finish was in the 2008 $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event where he placed 370th out of 2700 participants. Highlights include playing alongside poker professionals Kristy Gazes and Men "The Master" Nguyen. Another memorable moment at the 2008 WSOP is when Phil Helmuth stopped by Jay's table to chat with a friend and observed a few hands of play. Jay was very careful not to make any bad plays during that time in fear of ridicule from the Poker Brat himself. |

Joe Macek started playing poker in 1997 after seeing the movie "Rounders". Little did he know that poker required skill in addition to luck so for a year, Joe lost badly. After taking some time off he got serious again after watching the World Poker Tour on television but continued to lose. He kept at it and really started to learn the cards, odds, & players while playing low stakes online. In November, 2004, Joe started playing high stakes online and went on a US$25,000 winning streak. He decided that he wanted to see how good he could really be against the world at the WSOP Main Event and proceeded to make a deal with The Gaming Club, an online poker site, to play 200,000 raked hands (about 500,000 dealt hands) in return for paying his US$10,000 entry fee. Joe proceeded to lose US$20,000 while accomplishing this mammoth task. Joe entered the Main Event and made it to the very end of day 4, playing 16 hours of poker per day. He placed 140th (top 1.6%) out of 8773 players, the largest WSOP Main Event in history. Jamie Gold won it that year, banking US$12 million. Joe's goal is to be first in the KF Poker league to win a WSOP bracelet. |

Marc Virgo or the guy known only as "Virgo" started playing poker in 2002 after learning the cash game in cottage country from "hacks" such as Mark Braun, Will Clarke, Jon Hanec, "Irish", and Mosc. Following the Chris Moneymaker WSOP Main Event victory, Marc took the game more seriously by studying and dabbling in formalized tournaments. Marc participated in the 2008 & 2009 WSOP 1500 NL Hldm events with his best showing in 2009. "If only one more race held up, I would have cashed!" he stated. Highlights include playing alongside poker professionals Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Kenny Tran. In the 2008 event, Marc received the "death stare" from Ferguson after raising his big blind with J-10 off-suit. As Marc said "with every tell likely on my face throwing him off in all directions, he smiled, looked at his cards and told me he'd fold because I looked like a nice guy." |

Dave Moscovitch or "Mosc" as he's called, started playing poker in the late 90's. After suffering many cash game beats in places like River City Brewing, 411 Ash, Kris & Kathy's, and others, Mosc slowly improved his game, especially tournaments, where there was limited liability. Following his KF Poker Championship in 2007 Mosc participated in the US$10,000 Main Event in Las Vegas. On his 2nd hand he was dealt pocket AA's only to be called all-in by another player with pocket AA's. Dave nearly lasted a full day in a 6358 player field. Highlights included spooking Phil Ivey & his girlfriend with his stares and hounding those he recognized from TV for autographs. |

Bill Ladyman picked up the game of poker from his Dad, who introduced it to him as a youngster playing for jellybeans. Bill joined the KF Poker League in 2007 and his laid back demeanor soon had Jack calling him "Silent Bill". After an unlikely run at the 2009 KF Poker Championship that saw him move from 15th to 2nd, Bill made his way down to the 2009 WSOP. Highlights included playing two hours beside Doug "Rico" Carl, an ex-stockbroker who seemed more interested in Oil Sands development than poker. Bill also experienced three rounds of play with 2001 Main Event & 2007 WPT World Champion Carlos Mortensen, who Bill didn't recognize despite his pyramid of chips. Bill also had the privilege of playing with Men "The Master" Nguyen, including a hand against him that was featured on the WSOP official blog. Bill lasted until day two, seven spots out of the money after getting all his chips in the middle with QQ against a 9-5 off-suit bluff that hit two pair on the river. |

Will Hall is commonly referred to as "The Robot" because of his calculating and logical approach to the game. He is regarded as one of the top players in the league, although he's struggled in the Championship segments. "The Robot" has cashed in numerous online tournaments along with live tourneys held in Winnipeg, Regina, & Thunder Bay. In 2009, he played in his first WSOP in Las Vegas. He stated, "My WSOP experience was so surreal. I had the opportunity to play with Phil Helmuth for six hours which is a memory of a lifetime." Will admits that his 2009 KF Poker season was a train wreck. "I played a game that was far too advanced for this league's comprehension, and it cost me dearly", he said. Adaptation will certainly be the key to his future success. He claims, "There isn't a player out there that can prevent me from dominating the point chart and winning the overall Championship." Time will tell. |
